In Laos Grassroots works closely with a local partner organisation and churches who identify children in particular need, interview them (along with their parent or guardian) and visit them regularly. Each child is sponsored for £4.50 per month (£54 per year). This pays for school fees, a selection of school supplies and a piglet. The piglet is given to the family of the sponsored child, along with training on how to rear it. Once grown, the pig can either be sold or eaten. Either way it makes a big difference to family’s ability to provide food on the table. The final part of the sponsor money is put into a fund which is used towards medical fees if any of the sponsored children are ill.
