For supporters of Good Neighbours Church and El Shaddai School it will come as a big surprise that they are in Juda! We have known for years that they were in a little village called Theta. So what happened?
The church leaders and village/town leaders got together and discussed the fact that Theta had to change its reputation and a very poor place and decided to change the community’s name….to Juda. Juda mean “Praise” and is the same as “Judah” in the Bible.
Last weekend Sharon, Stuart and Lily flew over to join the children at the school for an amazing Christmas party. This new tradition started 2 years ago and it now anticipated with great joy. The children all get a good meal and then there are speeches, cake, sweets and lots of singing and performances.
This year the “Buda Buda Boys” (who ride motocycle taxis that keep the village connected with the rest of the world – as 2 wheeled transport finds it much easier to get into Juda across the fields that are so often water logged) arrived with presents for the children and piles of sweets and biscuits. These guys are central to the community and are raising money to rebuild the bridge that would reconnect the village to the main road (instead of having to cross the fields). The old one was washed away in a flood a few years ago.
