Most people in Tanzania are not connected to mains electricity, and there are power cuts most days which makes life after sunset rather difficult as students can’t study and children who are afraid of the dark struggle.
Light is usually provided by kerosene lamps, but these are dangerous and accidents leave adults and children badly burnt. Our alternative gift list has previously offered a safe oil lamp but the cost of fuel for that is increasing and there are now better alternatives.
We have been able to team up with “Sunny Money” (as mentioned on BBC News) to provide solar lights. The small light is perfect for individual light for studying. A larger light is portable and great for family use. A Mega light is powerful enough to light a whole classroom – and charge a phone at the same time! All versions are powered by the sun so there are no additional costs involved.
We would like to be able to give a “Safe Study Light” for each sponsored secondary student.
We also want to give each family with sponsored children a Safe Family Light.
If you could stretch to a “Safe School Classroom Light” then that could be given to homework clubs and schools.
All of these lamps are available in our Shop
