Morning arrived too soon. Alarms began ringing around 5am in order to make sure we all got up in time to catch the bus from Mbeya to Dar. As we climbed onto the bus our first adventure began. We are not sure why but two of the seats we had booked had been given to somebody else! After much discussion George, Sue and John shared a seat made for two for over half of the journey.
The scenery is stunning – especially passing through the rift valley. After our 10 minute stop for lunch, the bus travelled smoothly through the game park where we were able to see zebra, giraffe, wilder beast, impala and elephants. The elephants had a small baby elephant with them. So sweet! 🙂
The miles covered continued to go well – even if a little boring at times. Then suddenly we noticed that the driver was stopping regularly to put oil (or possibly some other liquid!) into the engine. The stops became more frequent until the bus limped into Dar es Salaam, eventually taking over 16 hours! Usually a 13 hour journey!!
We were hot and sticky and remain so. Dar is very humid. On arrival to our accommodation we had a drink but, due to our late arrival, there was no food. Still, how can we complain after what we have seen and heard.
Tomorrow we hope to have a few hours on the beach, enjoying the beautiful white sand and Indian ocean. This will be fantastic and good “down time” before flying to the UK in the evening.
Please contact me if you would like to join a future trip. We have spaces in 2013 in May and November.
Thank you for your prayers.
God bless and good night.
