Church in a Bar! Tenerife!
-
30 January, 2011
It has always been our desire to have a relevant church service in Las Americas for the people of Las Americas and we now feel we at a place where we can do this.Silencio Church evening meeting will take place a bar in the community (The Mett Bar) once a month to provide an service for the people who work in the nightlife scene.
Our first service will be January 30th and will be at 6pm – 7:30 pm.
We are very excited about this as a team. We regularly take people to our church meetings and the contemporary worship, life changing testimonies, relevant preaching and great welcome, seem to help people. Those who come for the first time are always pleasantly surprised and never put off.
We want to take the same model of how we do church to the nightlife community to reach the young people.
We are depending on Jesus to breathe all over this. He did say he would build His church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it. Only He can make this successful, only He can transform hearts. Please stand with us in prayer as we take the church to a place it's never been before in Tenerife.

i would love to stay in contact about what you doing. I also pastor a church in a bar in the US. May God Bless you in your efforts to advance His Kingdom!

I will be praying for you this evening...
It has been the most amazing week this week – not only for us at The Living Room, members of Silencio Church and supporters from STCF and other churches but for all of our supporters in prayer and finance. Church in a Bar has been DONE!
It was so amazing and consumed all of our thoughts, conversations and prayers last week! Me and Lee spent the week on the streets handing out flyers. It provoked some interesting responses! Some scoffed, some completely got it and why we would do it (one comment was “yeah you're taking church to the people instead of the people to church” ) others were confused and some were really interested. Our main prayer was that some would come, have a positive experience of church and go back and tell others. We prayed that it would be the talk of the town, generating interest and spreading curiosity so that people would be drawn to come next month.
The whole day including all the packing up, setting up, packing down, setting down and technicalities all went really well....so smoothly not at all stressful and without a hitch! What an answer to prayer! And the service itself was amazing – we just did church, like we always do church......but at The Mett Bar!
There were about 80 people all crammed in, some standing at the back, some squashed around poledancer poles and some sat along the edge of the bar on bar stools! We counted about 15 people from this community who were there who don't normally come along to church. I was so excited as the band started to play their first song – I just couldn't believe it was actually happening! The music and the worship were good, Scott's testimony was brilliant, telling all about his life on a downward spiral of homelessness, heroin addictions and drink and drugs... he even pr'd on Veronicas for a while...and then his upward journey of Jesus setting him free and seeing his life transform to being a secure, married, employed man with a bright future!
Then Lee preached on Jeremiah 29 v 11 and God's heart for his children and how he wants to see them do well and see them restored to their original condition. It was great! Afterwards we all went over to the Living Room for Tea and Coffee and more good conversations followed there too. It was fantastic and probably one of the most exciting things I have ever been involved with.
Thank you so much for all your prayers. IT was AWESOME! And we are believing it to build and grow for next time. The Mett Bar have said that we can use the bar whenever we like to do another one as we didn't cause them any hassle whatsoever and their staff are happy to help us set up again whenever that is. Bring on Feb 27th!!
Please pray for us this week on the streets!
