New Playground opens in Shewa, Tanzania

10 August, 2010
What a wonderful sight. Hundreds of children playing on the new equipment set up next to the Shewa church building. The glorious innocence of play is surely part of God's Kingdom coming into the earth - for all of us but particularly for children.Play is vital to the development of a child. I look around my own children’s bedrooms and I am amazed at the variety of toys that clutter up their rooms! One of the impacts of Tanzania is just how little the children have to play with. I remember talking to one young girl who had a corn on the cob stalk in her hand she told me it was her dolly. You often see children playing with old bottle tops and batteries and footballs made out of plastic bags and string. We have wanted some time to build a playground and we were able to open our first playground in June this year in Shewa right next to the church. The children were amazed to see a rough plot of ground transform into a play area with swings, slides, sea saw and roundabout.
