Where Who Sponsoring Children Mission Trips Alternative gifts Â
Secondary sponsorship (£15 per month) ... in Tanzania every child sits national Government exams taken in the last year of Primary School. If a child passes these the Government allocates the child a school. This can be local but could also be a boarding school several miles away. This has put us in the position where there is no longer a standard cost for secondary school. 100% of the money you give goes to the children but some need more and others less to get the same opportunity. HIV Support (£40 per year) ... all the children Grassroots supports receive HIV tests. If they test positive Grassroots gives them extra support including doctors appointments, drugs and extra nutritious food. This costs a great deal over the amount of standard sponsorship. Letters to your Sponsored Child If you would like to send a letter or post card to the child you sponsor, then the team are very happy to deliver them. The children love to hear from their sponsor. Click HERE for a few things to remember when you are writing a letter to your sponsored child. ----------------- Sponsorship PLUS Our concern for integrity means that Grassroots continues to use 100% of the annual sponsorship money (£42 for primary) to support your specific child. If there is gift aid this is used where the need is greatest across the sponsorship programme. But even with this flexibility we have to be honest that the present financial crisis is putting quite a strain on the system. This has been made worse by the fluctuations in the value of sterling against the Tanzanian shilling and the recent 50% increase in food costs in East Africa. We do not want to increase the basic sponsorship starting amount but we are very grateful to those of you who have started giving their Sponsorship PLUS a little bit more and are standing in the gap with us at this time. If you wish to do this simply make the amount on your standing order a little bit more than the basic amount and write next to it "Sponsorship PLUS". Â
Every May and November we take teams to Mbeya to visit the projects, meet the team, minister in the churches, interview the children and join in with the feeding programmes. We travel by plane to Dar-es-Salaam and then over land by bus. Then spend an amazing week with our Tanzanian friends. We would love you to join us. A team consists of between 8 and 25 people. Volunteers are asked to raise the cost of their involvement. £450 covers all costs in Tanzania including insurance. In addition to this you will need to raise money to cover the cost of the air ticket (variable), visa (£38), immunisations and anti-malaria tablets (variable depending on your GP's advice). If you would like to join us you need to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it as soon as possible. This remains refundable until we have bought your air ticket - and we always contact you to confirm all the details before we do this! Once we have confirmed your place we will arrange for you to join us on an orientation day where we can tell you everything else you need to know. Please note the compliance policy.
