Malawi mission team blog

30 October, 2009

Kathie & Les Craske and a team are off to Malawi on 1 Nov 2009. We'll put a blog from their trip here...

Here's some initial information about who is going and what they hope to achieve:

Les and Kathie are joined by Annabel and Malcolm Valentine on this trip. They have lived and worked in Africa and have also visited Samuti village before, so are well adapted to the living conditions.

We leave for Malawi on Sunday 1st November from Heathrow. Ethiopian Airlines have changed our flights at the last moment, giving us a 24 hour stopover in Addis Ababa at their expense. We then travel on to Malawi on Tuesday morning, arriving in Blantyre at 9.00 pm.

As well as seeing to all the usual things at the nursery we are hoping to use Malcolm's expertise in agriculture to talk with the local people to see if there are any ways in which their yields from the crops can be increased.

We are also looking into the possibility of growing Moringa trees, it is claimed that every part of the tree can be used for something. The main idea is to use its leaves in food for the children. Making compost is also on the agenda, this could be fun!

Annabel and Kathie are planning to do some teaching on bible truths and prayer with small groups, though these may turn into larger groups than planned.

Les is the main camera and video man and is kept very busy.

We will update as and when internet connection allows.
