Here is a brief overview of the work written by Nicola just before she left for Thailand in 2006.

I have worked with these children as a volunteer in Thailand's only orphanage for children with special needs. During this time it became clear to me that many of these children were often limited by their situation and never expected to reach their full potential. In the year I was there they came on leaps and bounds with even the smallest amount of encouragement and I realised how much more could be done.

On returning to the U.K I began looking into ways to support children with CP that could help the children in Thailand. In my search I came across a development training programme called Portage. Portage is designed to support the development of young children with special needs. It uses play, communication and relationships to develop the childs existing skills, one step at a time. I believe that through this training, and with the support of physiotherapy, the childrens quality of life and chance to reach their potential should be improved.

I pray that with the hope of God's love, change will come for these children, and that they will grow in the knowledge that they are loved. I am grateful for all the generous help God has provided so far but there is so much more to be done. The project aims to take the children on one tiny step at a time and develop their abilities and so this why I called the project 1 Step, 2 Step.

Nicola is in Thailand now and putting the work into practice. The fact that she was able to team up with grassroots has made this possible and she is glad to be able to be using the money to make small but significant changes in some of the children's lives.

Soon we will be adding photos that tell the story of why this work is so important. In the meantime, if you wish to support Nicola's work and the team she is putting together, please feel free to either use the normal Giving form or to donate by credit card. In each case please designate your gift to "1 Step 2 Step".

Thanks.
