Grassroots does not pay for fundraising places in sporting events
-
09 April, 2010
In the context of the recent Channel 4 DISPATCHES programme we think it is important for all our donors and sponsors to know that Grassroots will not pay for fundraising places in sporting events such as the London Marathon.
Nor will Grassroots register with fundraising websites that are charging 5% of the final donation for their services. Instead we will try to make these services available ourselves in other ways. These may not look quite as flash on the screen, but we believe donors give the money to be used for specific things and they should not be used for lining other people's pockets. In the same way, if you give £3.50 per month to sponsor a child in Tanzania, or £8 per month to sponsor a child in India... you can be sure 100% of that money goes to support that child. We trust God to provide other funds to make it possible to administer the programmes and send you certificates or advertising.
Just in case you were interested!
So please support Steve Tuppen, Steve Plumb, June Millwood and Jon Wills in their endeavours!

The original programme can be watched at this link.
The London Marathon has refuted the programmes claims according to this article in The Guardian . But the comments at the bottom are revealing.

I can confirm that The Grassroots Trust has not paid for my entry into The British 10k in London on 11th July nor will the trust pay for my rail ticket or anything else I need to compete. The trust did not ask me to do this race- I wanted to because I believe that The Grassroots Trust has a vision to help orphans and the disadvantaged folk in Tanzania and has an integrity.
